Bathroom Renovation Tips
A well planned out bathroom can add thousands of dollars to the value of your home, and add a relaxing space for you to rejuvenate.

1. Choose elegant fixtures. Elegant vanities, tubs and fixtures add to the value of your bathroom. When selling a property, your kitchen and bathroom are the 2 most important rooms in the house for the ladies when looking at buying.

2. Sit in the tub before you purchase. Get a feel for if it is too big for the room. A 60 inch tub is fine for most people, and look at the neck and head rest.

3. Select durable flooring like marble, ceramic or stone tiles. Something that is water and slip resistant. Having your bathroom floor heated is an added value that will make your tiles nice and warm when you step out of the tub.

4. Hang a beautiful, stylish mirror. A lovely framed mirror adds more to the room than a plain mirror, and consider installing lighting fixtures over or beside the mirror.

5. Instal a cabinet if you have space in the room for storage.

Lawn Aeration

Lawn Aeration is a process that perforates the soil with small holes that allow water, air and fertilizer through to get to the roots. This helps them to grow more deeply and in turn produces a more vigorous lawn.

You would know your lawn needs aeration if it doesn’t turn green after fertilizing, or if there are worn areas throughout your lawn. Aeration is best done once a year depending on the lawn.

There are two types of aerators. One simply puts holes in the soil but leaves the plugs. The other actually removes the plugs. It is suggested to get the second aerator type. An effective tool will produce holes at least three quarters of an inch in diameter and penetrate three inches deep. No more than three inches apart, and aerate on a day where the ground is moist, but not too soft.

Leave the plugs for a day to dry then you can mow them which can add a nice top layer for your lawn. Raking them up is another way to get rid of them. Aeration should be done in the spring. Happy Aerating!!

Lawn Dethatching

Thatch is a layer of slowly decomposing grass, dead roots and debris. It happens when you mow and it is tossed back onto your grass. Over time this prevents water and other nutrients to get to the roots of your lawn. It also gives insects a wonderful place to hide!

A light layer can be good for your lawn however too much like anything can be damaging!

It is best to dethatch just before the growing season begins.

The most effective way to get rid of thatch is with a vertical mower. After you have brought it to the surface, you then sweep or rake the lawn to remove the thatch.

If you are inactive and have a history of heart trouble, talk to your doctor before you take on the task of shoveling snow.

Avoid caffeine or nicotine before beginning. These are stimulants, which may increase your heart rate and cause your blookd vessels to constrict, which places extra stress on the heart.

Dress in several layers so you can remove a layer as needed.

Warm up your muscles before shoveling, by walking for a few minutes or marching in place. Stretch the muscles in your arms and legs, because warm muscles will work more effectively and be less likely to be injured.

Pick the right shovel for you. A smaller blade will require you to lift less snow, puttting less strain on your body. Protect your back by lifting correctly. Most of all- listen to your body. Stop if you feel pain.
